The mist stalks
on silent wolf feet
it wanders, waiting,
to engulf a city in its wings.
It watches with
unblinking eyes,
and sulks off.

I did what had to be done. The officers turned toward me and I stood up slowly. I raised my gun and fired several shots. They fell to the ground injured badly and I ran out of the abandoned house. That’s when I saw my brother standing with a bomb vest near an SUV most likely full of gas. Which meant if I didn’t ditch I was going to become fried pig. My brother smiled like he didn’t even know me and pressed the button. I flew backwards and hit a tree so hard I blacked out.
When I woke up I was in a room in one of the houses nearby the explosion. Keamean stood infront of me and said, “Where’s the boy, Isa? I might spare your life if you tell me”. “You’ve never spared anyones life except your own”! I spat. He slapped me and I knew he was going to get more violent. “Isa! Tell me where the boy is”! Keamean yelled. “No! No! No! I’ll never tell you”, I yelled. Keamean punched me in the face and I felt blood spill over my lips, he broke my nose or at least got close to doing so. “Where is the boy? Isa, I don’t want to kill you but I will if you tell me nothing”! He yelled. I spat and said, “You’d kill me either way, Kea. You have never helped a person in your life! All you do is run around and kill people for your own amusement! Just know when you kill me you’ll never fin out”! Keamean got out a papertowel and wiped the blood off my face. “Isa, Tell me where the boy is”, He whispered. “I wish I wasn’t so loyal to him,Kea. I can not tell you, Loyalty is in my blood”, I said quietly. “Isa, I don’t want to hurt you. Nor do I want to kill you. Let me help you…Help me with this. Please Isa, I don’t want to do this”, He said pleading in his eyes. “If you didn’t want to do this then why did you sign up for it several weeks ago? You lie, Kea, To everyone who loves you most! Even if I told you, You’d kill me and do the same to Chad. So, What are you waiting for? Kill me”! I yelled. Keamean had tears in his bright brown eyes. He was good looking and extremly polite when needed but he sometimes had to put that aside and be cruel. “Isa, I don’t want to kill you”, He whispered shakily. “But you have to don’t you”, I spat. He slapped me again and I didn’t say anymore. At that second Matt and Chad burst through the door and yelled, “Don’t do it”. Keamean stared down at me and said, “Where is the boy”? I took a deep breath and said, “I’ll never tell you”. “TELL ME”, He yelled. “No, I will never betray his trust”, I spat. He punched me in the stomach this time and I felt blood in my mouth. “Isa, I don’t want to kill you”, He said shakily. “They’re watching aren’t they”? I asked in a small voice. “Yes, I’m watching”, Said a girls voice behind me. Thats when I saw he step beside Keamean…It was my trainer the one who made me this way. “Why don’t you tell us where he is”? She said in an extremly icy voice. “Never”, I said looking down at my toes. She raised a knife and then out of nowhere stabbed Keamean. “KEA”! I whispered crying. “Now, Listen! You tell me where he is or I simply kill your friends”, She laughed. I laughed and kicked one of the legs of chairs I was sitting in. It immediatley broke and I was free of the bindings. My trainer was a woman but she had no name in particular. We all usually called her ‘Viper’ because she killed everyone who got in her way. “I thought you knew me better, Viper”, I laughed. “You have no weapons”, She laughed. I searched my pockets and shirt and found no weapons. “You think I kill with only weapons? You are really new aren’t you”, I laughed. “Who is she”? Matt asked. “The person who taught me most of what I know now. She trained me”, I said quietly. “Dang”, Matt said madly. Viper ran at me full speed and I jumped into the air and held onto one of the pipes. She turned back around and I flipped off the plumbing. She held a knife up ready to let go at any movement. I looked to my right and saw a gun at the other end of the room. I estimated the length appart and took the chance. She waited and then I slid across the floor grabbed the gun and shot for all I was worth. The knife went into my leg and I shrieked in pain. Viper fell to her knees and grabbed a gun from her pocket. I aimed perfectly and shot once towards her abdominal. She fell backwards and I limped over to her. She was still alive when I got over there and she slowly lost the light in her eyes. I closed the lids and limped over to Keamean. He was struggling to breath and it hurt my heart to watch him. “It hurt so bad”, He weezed. “I’m sorry”, I said feeling a tear come down my cheek. “Isa, Grab my gun and do as I tell you”, He weezed. I took his gun and said, “What”? “Kill me, Please”, He weezed. “No, I can get you to a hospital or something. I’m not going to kill you”, I said softly. Keamean grabbed my hand and said, “Kill me, Kill me, please. Once they know I’m dead they will stop searching for you all. Kill me”. I traced a scar on his arm and said, “No, I will not betray my own trust”. “Isa, Get over it. I’m dying and there’s a slim chance I’ll live. Kill me now and this trouble you have will all go away for good”. I felt more tears run down my cheeks as I said, “No”. He put a hand on my cheek then said, “If you love something you have to let it go and hope it comes back”. “I don’t want to”, I cried. Keamean wiped my tears then said, “Kill me and I promise you you’ll be helping alot of people”. I took his hand on my face and closed my eyes then said, “Okay”. I took his gun and put it at his abdominal and pulled the trigger. The light slowly left his eyes and his hand fell to the floor soundlessly as if in a silent movie. I stared at his lifeless face and cried harder than I ever did. “Isa, Are you okay”? Chad asked. I pulled the knife out of Keamean’s stomach and threw it at the wall. I took the knife out of my leg and threw it harder than I ever could. “I am a murderer”, I cried. “No, No you’re not. You’re not a bad person! You helped him”, Chad said softly. “If I’m such a good person then why did I let my brother die”? I asked not wanting an answer. I laid my head down on Keamean’s chest and felt no heart beat or sashay rhythm. “Let it go, Isa. He’s dead I’m alive…So is Matt and You are too! Let’s have party”, Chad laughed. “Shut up”, Matt said loudly. “No, You shut up! I’m trying to make her feel better”! Chad yelled. “Chad, Nothing will make me feel better until I find who did this to me”, I whispered. “No, I want you to feel better now”, Chad said seriously. “Life isn’t always fun and games, Chad. Nor is there a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. There’s no such thing as Santa Clause and Happiness is one thing I don’t get very often. So, If you want me to be happy then why don’t you put a gun to my head? And pull the trigger”! I yelled. I looked down at Keamean’s lifeless body and stood up uneasily. “Calm down, Isa, Please”, Chad said. “What are you the emotion police”? I yelled. I saw a safe by the door with the keypad and limped over to it. I typed in a code and it opened automatically as if I actually knew the password. I pulled out a machine gun and said, “This is going to get messy”. Matt ran over to me and lowered the gun from my hands. “I’m going after him now whether you like it or not”, I snapped. “No, You wont go without me”, He said softly. “I will and you can’t change my mind”, I said. “I’m coming with you whether you like it or not”, He said stepping towards me. I was about to say something when he kissed me. I took in a deep breath after he stopped and I looked away. I didn’t like Matt it was just I wanted him sometimes to shut up or to do something for me. Right now, I was having mixed feelings. “I’m coming with you”, He whispered close to my lips. I took a deep breath then said, “Okay”. He laughed and took the gun from my hands. TOO BE CONTINUED…

Matt looked at me in alarm and smashed my phone on the ground. “What was that for”? I asked. “I thought he tapped your phone”, Matt said. “That was the phone that wasn’t tapped”, I said in a wow-you’re-new voice. Matt took a deep breath then said, “What are we going to do”? “There is no WE in I”, I said quietly. Matt and Chad looked at me immediatley then said, “There is no way that I’m going to let you run alone”. “Who said I was going to run”, I laughed pulling out one of my guns. Matt rolled his eyes and said, “There will be tons, Isa. You will get killed”! “I will die with honor”, I said lightly. “STOP”! Chad yelled. “SHUT UP, CHAD”! I yelled. He stood up madly and walked to the room he slept in last night. I immediatley regretted telling him to shut up. I walked over to his door and knocked twice. “Isa, I don’t want to see you right now”, Chad said angrily through the door. “How about you close your eyes and let me in”? I asked. “No”, He yelled. I jiggled the doorknob and it opened without protest. Chad looked angry and sad at the same time. “I want to help you”, He said lightly. “I know you do. But nobody can help me, I’m alone. I can’t let innocent people die just so Israeli gets its trigger happy officers can get paid. I want to do this my way”, I said slowly. Chad looked up at me from where he sat and said, “No, I will help you or I will die trying”. “Then prepare to die”, I said leaving the room. Matt still stood where I left him…he looked troubled. “I’m not going to be able to make it”, I said softly. Matt looked at me and said, “Don’t make this mistake. Don’t…Do this alone, Please”. I looked at him closely and saw in his eyes were tears. “I have to”, I said stepping closer to him. “But Chad needs you. Without you I’ll probably get him killed”, Matt said softly. “Matt, I’d love to stay. But I have to go…If I don’t my brother will kill us all and then the president”, I said softly. Matt was about to respond but his lips were to busy because I kissed him. I pulled away after a minute or so and said, “Goodbye, Matt”. I walked out of his house and tears clouded my vision as black SUVs pulled up and rolled down there windows. I wiped my eyes and several Mossad officers ran my way. I bolted down the street and into an abandoned house. I walked in and grabbed all the guns and ammo. I stashed several knives all over me in random and unwanted places. I found several grenades and left over cellphones. I hid in a corner between a mattress, restroom, and wall. Two officers walked in and I did what young kids like you should not ever do at home. I turned on one of the cellphones and pressed a rhingtone read this entry »
The second I saw him was the moment I knew,
Somehow someway he was connected to you,
I felt his sadness his hurt and his pain I wanted to help him and forget my shame,
I didn’t even know him but I loved him so,
Then I knew he knew because he smiled as if in a show.
I walked right past him. He stared back at me and I said, “Do I know you”? The teenage boy smiled and said, “No, Rex I know you”. I raised an eyebrow and said, “Who are you”? “Just call me Zone X”, The boy said. I rolled my eyes and kept walking not even feeling the ground beneath me as if I were flying. “I can help you”, He said in his scary voice. “I don’t need help maybe you should get some”, I said still walking. “I know what you feel, Rex. I can hear your thoughts, feel what you’re feeling, and I know every moment you’ve ever lived”, Zone said softly. “Why are you following me”? I almost screamed. “Rex, Take my hand maybe reality would do you some good”, Zone said instantly infront of me. I don’t know why but I took his hand even though I didn’t trust this guy. I woke up in a hospital bed. It seemed like I was sick or injured cause my best friend Tim was standing over me wiping his eyes so I wouldn’t see he’d been crying. “Rex, Are you okay? How do you feel”? He asked. “Tim, I feel weird. What’s going on? Why am I in here”? I asked. “On the way to the concert we got in a wreck and you passed out and had really bad gashes on your legs and back. So they said to keep you here for like a day or two. It’s been a week you went into a coma for while you just came out”, Timsaid quickly. I nodded and said,” Okay then why don’t I remeber”? “You passed out before the wreck”, Tim said holding my hand. I took the IV out of my arm and saw I was still wearing my usual shorts and cami. I got out of the hosiptal bed and walked outside quickly. “I told your Mom we were out camping with my Dad”, Tim said with a smile. I laughed and we went over to his car. He drove me to my house and I ran inside quickly feeling alittle dizzy. When I got up to my room I sat down on my bed with a loud clang. ”Hello, Rex”, Somebody said beside me. I looked to my right and nobody was there. I looked to my left and nobody was there. There was a bright light and the teenage boy from my dream materialized infront of me. I passed out and when I woke up I was in a metal room. The boy from my dreams leaned over me and I felt really uncomfortable. “What? Who…How….Where…Am I”? I asked. “You’re at my house. Somewhere secret, You are the only one able to enter it through dreams and reality. My name is Zone X and I am at your service, Rex”, He said quickly. I looked up at the metal ceiling and said, “What is this place”? “It’s the place of dreams. The place we can only invade. It’s my home as much as it is yours. Rex, Listen to me. You are not human! You are one of us, We are the magical ones”, Zone said touching my forehead. I was suddenly full of knowledge and I saw multiple slide shows in my head. I nodded and stood up to see a huge portal in front of me. I relaxed and said, “Close”. The portal closed as ordered and I felt power surge through my veins like adrenaline. “Zone, what is my new name”? I asked. “Zepheria”, He said softly. “Why are you so afraid”? I asked smelling fear in the air. “They are here”, Zone whispered. “Who”? I asked. “They are called Ailesetresheimans they are fire birds who turn into humans…Very dangerous humans”, Zone said his voice shaking. “I’m Sorry I brought you here”, Zone added. He made another portal and pushed me in. When I looked back my room was empty and alone. “ZONE”! I yelled scared. Nobody answered. TOO BE CONTINUED……

Thunder boomed outside and lightning lit up my room. I looked at my clock and saw that it was 12:00. My room lit up and I heard my door open. Mum stood in the door way. “What are you doing, Mum?” I asked. “I wanted to check if you would let your kitten sleep with you.” “Umm…sure,”I agreed hesitantly. She handed me a tremblingbundle of fur. The kitten was so scared of the thunder and lightning that she was like an massage chair. Sleeping next to her was like sleeping next to a volcano that was about erupt.
The sun streamed through the crack in the shades. Mum was shaking my shoulder gently. “Wake up. We over slept.” I got dressed and quickly ate my toast. I waited at the bus stop and brush my hair. I hadn’t had time to take a shower so I felt disheveled. The yellow bus stopped in front of the stop and I climbed on board. I plunkecd myself next to Danna and sighed. I was sure that today would be horrible.
I possess knowledge,
I know an entire language, maybe two,
I didn’t go to college,
To know, read me you should do.
You say I don’t,
You say I needn’t,
But how would you know?
How would you know?
I say I do,
I say I need it,
I would know,
I would know.
A friend is a piece of happiness,
Amidst other pieces,
Not necessarily sad nor joy.
It makes a friend stand out above the rest.
The sun beat down on us as we put up signs and worried about Buddy. Zack came to me and said,” All done, Emma.” I sighed and said,” I ran out of signs too. We walked back to our house. Mum was sitting on the couch reading Tom Sawyer. “How did it go?” We looked up and saw Jake, our older brother looking down at us. “Okay,” I said bitterly,” It might have gone better if you had agreed to help!” Just then the phone rang. Mum picked it up. “Hello? Yes…okay…Good.” She hung up and I blurted the questions that burned on my tongue,” Is it about Buddy? Did they find our dog!??” Mum looked at me in surprise then it softened,” No, dear. That was Mrs. Jones from the book club.” I ran from the living room to my room and slammed the door. I fell on my bed and sobbed. I missed Buddy. He would come up to my and lick away any tears that were on my face. I got Buddy on my tenth birthday and he was my puppy but he loved everyone and everyone loved him. Now he was gone! I had woken that morning and went down to the kitchen to let him out and give him his breakfast like I did every morning. But when I got there the door was open and Buddy was gone.
My door opened and my mother stood there framed in the door way.
She told me like always that everything would be okay, But it wasn’t it just wasn’t without Buddy. Everything was better when Dad was around but too bad he was long gone. He was my baseball coach along time ago and a darn good one at that. I was like the real meaning of Daddy’s girl but now I’m just little old Emma Jenheart from down the street. It’s hard being the only girl who likes to play baseball it’s just not right that Buddy has to leave too. My Dad used to be my favorite family member the one who understood me. He was the one who called me Emmy my favorite nickname, now the only person who calls me that now is my neighbor Tommy. I may be fourteen but I have the heart of a kindergardener.
I ran outside and knocked on Tommy’s door. Tommy’s mom answered and Tommy walked right outside beside me. “Tommy, I need a favor”, I said in the voice Mom used to use on Dad. “Yeah, Emmy”? He asked. “Can you help me find Buddy? He ranaway and Mom doesn’t have the gas to go looking for her in the old Cab”, I said quietly. Tommy nodded and we ran towards the place Buddy, Tommy, and I used to play as todlers. When we got there I was amazed to find Buddy under the shed by the graveyard. “Here, boy. Come here, Buddy”, I said making motions. Buddy ran over to me and licked my toes because I was barefoot. “Buddy! Hey Pal”, Tommy laughed rubbing behind Buddy’s ears. “Thanks for helping, Tommy”, I said quietly. Tommy looked over at me then asked, “Have you been crying”? I sniffed and nodded. “Buddy was a gift from my Dad. He was the last thing my Dad ever gave me before…before…the accident”, I sniffed. Tommy nodded and I laughed, “Dad always called me his Lost Dog because I was always here at the shed”. Tommy laughed and gave me a smile. “I remember, Emmy just know forever you’ll be my Lost Dog”, Tommy laughed. “That was really cheesy”, I laughed. “I know that’s why I said it, Emmy”, He laughed.
And I guess we lived happily ever after……..
“If this ever gets off the ground, he said, It’ll probably be really dangerous and maybe I will get the respect I deserve.” Melanie repeated feeling a stone drop deep in her chest. “That’s what he said?” Rose asked in surprise.
“Yes. He is going to kill himself! He’s crazy!” Melanie cried. They were walking on the wilderness trail behind their school. The sun chinked down the branches and dappled the ground in afternoon sun. “What is he building?” Rose asked after a while. “I don’t know.” Melanie admitted. Horror griped her like a human hand. Rose thought out loud-”He’s only eleven after all, whatever he is building must not be very safe.” They walked in silence for a long moment.
Melanie and Rose sat down on a rock. Rose absently threw a rock into the pond. “Did Chuck say anything…. Else?” Rose mumbled so low, she wondered if Melanie heard her. “No. Just that. Then he left wanting to work on his machine.” Melanie replied her voice growing higher. “And I don’t know what respect he is talking about! We all respect him!”
“Some don’t.” Rose murmured. Melanie sighed. “Well, if he wants this respect I’m sure there is something else he can do!” Melanie thumped her head trying to remember if he had said anything else.
“Lets head back.” Rose said breaking the silence. Melanie hadn’t realized how long they had been there. Their shadows were noticeably longer.
Melanie and Rose trudged through the trail. Melanie tried to think of things to distract her, but her mind kept wandering stubbornly to Chucks machine.
As they emerged from the thick forest trail, they saw it.
It was huge. It was made like an airplane, with propellers and wings, but it wasn’t a plane.
“Chuck!” Melanie wailed over the beating propellers. “Chuck don’t do this! Please don’t do this!” Chuck poked his head out from under the plane. The orange-gold sky made his red hair shinier than ever. He was wearing goggles and his hat was flapping around his head wildly. “Hi Melanie! Rose!” He shouted. “Nice isn’t it?” He said beaming, as he moved around to the side of the plane. Melanie and Rose froze in fear as he hauled himself into the not-so-plane-like plane.
“Chuck no!” Melanie and Rose howled at the same time. But it was too late. The plane coughed and sputtered. Then it loomed over with a moan and started to move forward. Slow at first, but steadily faster and faster until it hit the ramp with a shudder and took off.
Melanie and rose stood planted in the ground. They watched Chuck ride in his plane smoking and twirling, until it was a black dot in a gold sky. Melanie sank to her knees and cradled her face in her hands. “Times Square.” She whispered, her voice cracking. Rose squatted down next to her.
“I should have remembered.” Melanie said a little louder. He is flying to Times Square.” Rose patted her back comfortingly. “Its O.k. Chuck is a bright kid. He will be alright. He never crashed did he?” As if in response the wooden ramp broke in half.
