CHAPTER ONE
The farmer ran across the wet field, breathing heavily. It was a dark night, with many clouds but a full moon. The farmer would not have gotten up that early if it hadn’t been for a noise . . . RRreeeeeeaaaaaaaAAAARRR! It came from the goat pen. The farmer quickened his pace to a sprint. A quivering goat soon came into view. As the farmer reached and grabbed it, his heart nearly stopped. Staring back at him was what looked like a wild dog with a mane. It had white and brown skin, vampire fangs, and pale red eyes. The farmer jumped back and ran, but the . . . thing locked it’s jaws on the farmer’s leg, trying to drink the blood that wasn’t there. The farmer kicked the thing with his free leg, bounding a step ahead of it. He tore to the house and slammed the door. The farmer collapsed, trying to figure out what was endangering his goat’s. Then he remembered the local legend.
Congratulations to Sydney for Winning the “Writer Of the Month” Title...
I watched the sunset on the horizon as I did every night my parents got into an argument. I felt the sand beneath my toes and wiggled them around just for the fun of it. Soon the sun went down and it was completely dark except for the dim lights on the front porch of our beach house. I heard a crack of thunder and felt rain pore down on me almost immediately, which was felt pretty good. My little brother Miles sat down beside me crying so I pulled him into a hug that expressed every feeling I had at that moment. “Why do they have to fight”? He asked wiping his eyes. “Miles, I don’t know. Its just been hard for Mom and Dad these past few months, you know. And I know you’ll learn how to deal with it somehow Miles, I learned how to six months ago”, I said ruffling his golden curls. “Anna, If you ever tell anybody I cried I will deny it”, Miles laughed. Afterall, Miles is like fourteen with an old soul as Mammy would say. He usually never cried if you don’t count fake crying to his crush Amanda. “I’ll never tell”, I promised knowing what damage he could do to me if I didn’t promise. Miles was sweet and all but he was a natural prankster, my little prankster. “What do you want for your birthday, Anna”? Miles asked. “I don’t know, Bro. Maybe a football or a cell phone? Or I don’t know a better car”, I laughed. Miles laughed with me and thats when we both heard something break inside the house. We both stood up and ran into the house so fast, it made the guy from the fantastic four look slow. “Debbie! Stop throwing things”! Dad yelled in the kitchen. I ran into the kitchen Miles at my tail and saw my Mom throwing random items. “MOM! Calm down”, I yelled. She was crying as I could see her mascara smeared and her lipstick faded as she turned to me. “Be quiet, Annalysa”! Mom yelled. “Mom, put the vase down”, Miles said soothingly. “I want a divorce”! Dad yelled. “Fine, Miles is living with me”! Mom yelled. My heart fell instantly, I knew she loved Miles a lot but she took this to a new level. “Then I get Anna! And soon I will have custody of Miles”, Dad said grabbing my hand. “Don’t we get a say in this”? I asked hurt. “No, Annalysa! You don’t. Now pack your bags and get out of MY house”, She yelled at me. I felt tears come to my eyes as I ran to my room and picked up my already packed luggage. I walked over to my Dad who was almost in tears by the couch and hugged him tight. “I love you, Daddy. I’ve got my stuff packed let’s leave now”, I said wiping a loose tear. “Okay, Let’s go. I’ve been having my stuff in the Camaro for months, let’s go”, Dad said patting my hair. I let out a horrible sob and walked towards Miles. Just then my Dad took my hand and said, “Let them be, Anna. They need some time to think”. I nodded and we got into the Camaro quickly and thats when I saw Miles running towards the car in tears again. “Anna”! He yelled sadly. I couldn’t let him be here without ME it just wasn’t an option. Dad looked at me then said, “Just leave him be”. I nodded understanding what he was doing and we drove away just as Miles screamed my name one last time. “I have a house in New York”, Dad said shortly. “I know you do, Dad. You take me there every weekend remember”? I asked rolling my eyes. “You will be attending Quinton Senior High”, Dad said quickly. I looked up at him and said, “I’m sorry, Dad. I think it was all my fault you two are getting divorced. I should have just stuck with public school instead of dance”. “Annalysa, You think this is all about you? No, Your Mom and I were arguing because Miles and you are so close I can’t ever get him to do his homework. And Amanda calls so much, Sweetie. But I’m at work when she calls and I get so many messages to come home to. And the fact that you want to goto dance school is amazing, Anna, I love that you want to dance full time. It’s just your Mom doesn’t want you to and this subject is only minor to our other problems. I love you, Anna, I want you to know that”, Dad said pulling into the driveway of our vacation home. “Love you too, Dad. Forever”, I said walking up the steps and unlocking the door. ”Why did your Mom act that way? Why did she take Miles instead of you”? Dad asked himself. “Are you blind, Dad? Mom has always been a little magnetic to Miles. They have the same perfect golden hair. They have the same eyes, face it Dad! He’s a spitting image of her! She loves that, you want to know why? Because she doesn’t have to look in the mirror anymore to find beauty”, I spat. “She only cares about herself and is blind towards the people that love her. Miles told me once that he wished we could leave Mom and goto California to meet his pen pal. He didn’t say to
Leave you, Mom wants what she can’t get”, I added coldly. Dad stared down at me then said, “I can’t believe you could be so right and could be so wrong”. “Dad, you’re a guy. It happens”, I laughed. We walked inside and I immediately walked to my room and unpacked. “Anna, Can I have your car”? Dad asked from outside my bedroom door. “Are you serious”? I asked. “Yeah, I’m getting you a new one”, Dad said waiting for his words to take affect.
The next day I arrived at school and went to my first class. When I got there I sat down in the back and put my hair in a ponytail. I’ve learned it’s better to keep your hair in a ponytail the first day so people can see your facial features better. A girl beside me smiled and I half smiled at her. “I’m Shelby Andrews”, She introduced sweetly. ”I’m Annalysa Martinez”, I said pumping her hand. “I’ll call you, Spidergirl”, She laughed. “Then I get to call you, Angel”, I laughed. “Yes, Cause’ your wearing black all over and I’m wearing white all over”, Shelby stated. I laughed at her obvious fake happiness and scanned the room. Man, I wish Miles were here. I really didn’t like Shelby that much because she’s a natural chatterbox. I forgot I was at school once and almost thought she was a T.V. so I tried to find th mute button. She looked offended, I really didn’t care. I missed my Miles, My little baby! And I was going to get him back one way or another. Classes flew by and it was suddenly time for lunch. I ditched and drove down to the vacation house to see my Mom’s car parked in the driveway. I walked inside and saw Miles on the couch, excused from school. “MILES”, I yelled. He ran over to me and gave me a big hug. “Anna”, He cried into my shirt. “I missed you those few hours you weren’t with me”, I smiled. “Don’t ever leave me again”, Miles said into my shirt. “Okay, I promise”, I said doing our handshake. “What happened”? I asked. “You’ll never belive it! Mom and Dad are staying married because of you! Your birthday is tomorrow so they decided it wouldn’t be fair. He’s already gotten you a present you can open right now”, Miles said pointing to the table in the living room. I walked over to it and opened the box slowly and carefully quaking with excitement. Thats when I saw them it was a jar full of blue butterflies the size of my fist. I looked into the jar and said,” Miles”? Miles ran over to my side and I said, “Why’d Dad get me these”? “Becuase when you were born Mammy wanted to name you Blue Butterflies and Dad said no seventeen times. The same age you are now”, Miles smiled up at me. “Who told you that”? I asked. “Let’s just say alittle butterfly told me”, Miles smiled sweetly. I ran my fingers through his hair and we watched the butterflies buzz around in the jar. Thats when I thought I saw one wink at me but I just couldn’t believe it.
It was a cold dark sunday evening and I was taking a walk right by my favorite garden. The leaves rustled and the trees spoke stories to their blooming flowers as I kept my pace. It smelled of old perfume stained on a wedding dress over the years and every time you wore it it became stronger. I wiped the sweat off my forehead and sped up my pace, footsteps still lurked behind me. I could hear the footsteps grow faster changing into paws on cement. Suddenly it grew quiet but I smelled the tinge of blood on the air. And I tasted the dirty trail they left for me to beware…I felt for my sword but all I had was a wand. Truly it was just a branch made of witch oak but right now it was all I had. I pulled it out of its wrappings and gazed as it shimmered beneath the glow of the moon. I heard a deep growl and out of nowhere came the animal. Huge, it bore claws the size of someones lone head, its teeth were long fangs, its eyes lay steady with mine and then out of complete idiotic pain I hummed a lullaby. “Spare me O’ merciful for I am not your prey”, I said bowing. The animal gave a smirk then said, “No, M’dear Queen, You are not. But may i remind you it is not safe here in Ronealk at night. Your father would smite you if he knew”. I flattened the skirt of my dress then said, “M’Lord, You wouldn’t burden thee like such would you”? “Now that I’ve taken time to consider, you may run. When you run…Do not look back, for the black magic witches and warlocks have broken free of their mystical bindings”, He smiled. “M’Lord”, I said taken aback. “Go, Crystal, go…They await royal blood”, Myron hissed. “M’Lord, You are not my father”, I snapped. “No, but M’Queen, not even I would want to see you beheaded and your face put upon the aceint gates of Ronealk”, He hissed. I felt my neck then I said, “Then go, M’Lord, fight your fight and behead them all! For you have the blessing of the Fire Lord! Go! Go”! Then I ran to my castle and waited for the war to burden my dreams.
TO BE CONTINUED!!!!
Face a mess,
Sitting upon the steps,
So afraid
of what looms so close,
so close,
teardrops dotting my shirt,
Something oh so close,
so close,
crying,
a wild creature leaps out,
lets out a roar,
a creature hated,
hated,
sadness.
Sadness.
Death whispers to me
Death speaks to me
Death yells at me
Death gives me a sneer
Death gives me a warm invite like a old friend
They forget the moment they had before,
Those precious memories wasted,
They let the secrets spill no time to replace it,
Sometimes the air speaks to the hearts of all of them,
So spread your wings, little Birdie, and fly,
Fly as if I never taught you a thing,
Soar as if your life depended on it,
Fly before this one good memory dies ,my Birdie,
They forget to spread instead they fall,
They forget what was their natural call,
forever peace? Forever love?
Where have we gone from years above?
These precious lies they feed from,
Don’t listen to their lies,
So, Spread your wings ,little Birdie,
Fly as if I never taught you a thing,
Soar as if your life depended on it,
Fly before this memory dies ,my Birdie,
Keep your peace…
I qiuck peak around the corner, your still there, of coarse you were. I wonder why I’m looking again. OK I do know, but should I be truthfull to myself? Can I trust myself with that certen secret? I did a perfect three sixty and disobeying the school rules broke into a run.
