I couldn’t believe it. I stared at the board in awe. One third of the class was honest. The list of those kids was displayed on the SMARTboard. Sara Nackinglurer, Kastti Marzilez, and Ty Yeww were three random-seeming kids. They were horrible students! I felt amazed. I wasn’t on the honest list. Kastti Marzilez was smiling. It figured. Kastti loved irony, especially when it was in her favor. Ms. Irindom told all the non-honest kids to go to her office via intercom. I trudged along with good students. Something was wrong, I just knew it. When we reached Ms. Irindom’s office, she wasn’t there. No one was. The computers, the phones, the intercoms were all on. There was a note on her desk reading, “Back in a few minutes!” The note was dated, because Mrs. Irindom always dates her notes. It was dated Apr. 4, 2010. Today was April 27th! I looked at the computer screen. All that was on there was a strange code, but what Damian, the computer genious, could make out was: FATAL VIRUS FATAL VIRUS UNKNOWN VIRUS ATTACKING COMPUTER DISTRIBUTING BACKUP DISK HARDWARE INFILTRATION BACKUP DISK STOLEN… powering down…
“Well, are we going to do it?” said nick. Holly acted as if she was choking on a nut. She didn’t reply but but nothing more was said on the topic. Luke was now positive that he had given the “Sleuths Three” their biggest challenge yet and was very happy about it. When the children arrived at school they were very quiet. The only things said were school related. Holly’s frustration kept growing inside of her. Finally in math class when Holly felt she was going to explode she screamed, “That’s it!” “I Have to go to the mansion, if I don’t Luke will forever pester me and ruin the reputation of “The Sleuths Three!” The class was shocked. Holly, forgetting that she wax in math class had a stare down with Mrs. Lynn, who was quite irritated. At recess Ashley and Nick immediately approached Holly on the swings. “What happened back there”? said Nick shyly. “Yeah, you seemed a little off your game”said Ashley. A silent pause followed. Then Holly slowly rose to her feet. “I guess I just was so spooked about the whole Saint Lilly Scout mansion situation, that I needed to get my anger out. “You realise that we don’t have to go to the mansion” Said Nick. “Yes we do” said Holly firmly. “Not just for the sake of our reputation, but to also prove to myself that I’m not a chicken”. “you’ll never be a chicken”said Ashley. Luke is just trying to intimidate you. “Yeah, I bet Luke is to scared to go to the mansion himself” said Nick. The group all shared a needed laugh.
Walking home from school I was feeling weird not like sick, but more of a nervous feeling. The thing that scared me is that I didn’t know what it was. Walking on the sidewalk wasn’t usually this bad why the hell was I so scared. It felt like someone was watching me. You know that feeling you get when you have to get something from the basement and as soon as you get what you came down for you high tale it out of there, that’s what this felt like. I quickened my pace slightly and set my course for my grand parents house. Walking past 5 acre lots with houses on each that look exactly the same, with the white picket fences, and the perfect lawns. I saw a flicker of black go past one of them. I entered my grandparents gates and turned around to see if someone was following me. There was what looked like a gang just hanging out right outside the gate. Were they there a second ago? No they couldn’t have been I just walked through the gate. The only difference between these people and a gang were that all of the dark figures were staring at me with hazy eyes. I put the key in the lock and opened the door. “Grandma where are you?” I asked anxious to tell my grandma about the weirdoes outside. “Over here hon what’s wrong?” my grandmother asked hearing how scared I really was. “There are like 7 people outside and they just keep walking the fence line like they want in are blocked out.” I said. “Oh my god Herald hurry its happening they’re here.” My grandmother yelled. There was a rumble in the other room of the house and then my grandpa was at the window. “We need to get out of here the ward won’t last long.” My grandpa said his face filled with fear. I had never seen anything make my grandpa scared in my life. Now there were 7 people who weren’t even on our property yet and he was freaking out. What was going on? And what did he mean by a ward. Was that what was keeping those weird people out? “Ok, you grab the box I’ll get the amulet.” my grandpa said, “Cole come with me.” “Grandpa what’s going on?” I asked not understanding the danger we were in.
Holly walked to the school bus stop at Harvey road, three blocks from her neighborhood. She waited patiently for the bus as many colored cars came passing by. Once the old, yellow bus stopped all the students glued their faces to the windows, looking at the oh so intriguing, Holly Nimble-Son. You might know by now that being a investigative “Sleuth-ER”, had it’s rewards. Including twenty four hour popularity treatments. But as always, Holly ignored the many school bus offers to sit by second graders, and the occasional begs to do her homework by third graders, and decided to sit with her “sleuths three” partners, Nick and Ashley. “So, what’s the scoop?” said Ashley, referring to their latest mission. “Well I think you’ll be very impressed to know that I caught the mailbox thief.” “Who is it?” said Nick anxiously. “It was Mr. Lookens, he was trying to steal our rental DVDs!” said Holly, almost yelling. ” It just goes to show that you can’t trust anyone.” said Ashley. “Yeah I thought he a was really nice guy, to bad” said Nick, Sighing. Then Holly stood up on her seat and yelled, “Yet another mystery has been solved!”. All the kids cheered until Luke, the school bully yelled back, “If you guys are such good Mystery solvers then your going to have to prove it!”. ”How shall I prove it Luke”, replied Holly sarcastically. “Well, Halloween is coming up in a few days and everyone is talking about the Saint Lilly Scout Mansion, so how about you guys solve the mystery to whether there really is a ghost of Lilly Scout by saying her name on Halloween night.” “Are you kidding me, I don’t want to have my soul stolen!” said Ashley. Holly meant to say something like “Sure we can do it”! but couldn’t.
“Saint Lill…”, was about the only thing a human could say when speaking of the ancient looking Saint Lilly Scout Mansion. Rumor has that if someone was to say “Saint Lilly Scout” on Halloween night the ghost of Lilly Scout herself would steal your soul and leave you to disintegrate in the mansion’s large graveyard. Of course this was only a rumor says the one person who didn’t believe it, Holly Nimble-Son. Holly was the 5th grade investigative sluether in Monarke Elementary School and she could take on the biggest challenges that came towards her. But don’t think Holly was on her own because she had the ultimate sleuthing crew. Holly had the best of the best in her squad. Ashley Monarke, the Principal’s daughter, was the team’s journalist. She wrote wrote down every detail and every clue of the investigative mission. Holly’s other teammate, Nick Unther, was the team’s crashing dummy. He would take the bullets for any emergency, yet he didn’t do this again and again without a reward because he was granted permission by Ashley to have full access to the soda machine in the teacher’s lounge. Together, Holly, Ashley, and Nick called themselves “The Slueths Three”.
If you’ve ever experienced the faint moment in time where you think the world stops revolving and you are the only human living, then you most likely would at been at Beaver-dam park in the middle of the summer. My experience was when I had joined a nature explorers camp and was in the middle of a three mile hike. I was sweating bullets and my heart was pounding, but unexpectedly, I stopped.
I took the moment to stare at the breath- taking view. The trees were brightly colored with birds chirping in sweet harmony. I shuffled my feet and felt the smooth grey beneath me where tiny creatures would slither around. I walked lightly as the exhilarating breeze rustled through my hair. The wind smelt of pine trees and salt. I started to to look to the left, and then to the right. To the left I saw a beautiful river where ducks and fish swam gracefully on the surface. To the right I saw many more trees and trails aligned perfectly together. In that instant I felt peace all around.
Sadly the moment faded and I heard all the running footsteps of the other campers. Soon I would run with them. Although time has passed I still remember the small even because I belive the most beautiful things in life are the things that are right in front of us.
A boy standing with grape juice in front of the microwave: “I want my grape juice warm.”
Mom walkes in: “Sure. Anything for you!”
She hugs him and then says:” Are you warm now?”
Boy: “I was talking about the juice.”
Mom:” I was warming you up so that you can drink cold juice.” ![]()
Where do I began, this war has turned my people against once trusted allies. What do you suspect we are werewolves. No human knows of our war with the griffens because the war is only at night and any human that see’s our war is turned into a werewolf to join our army in the great battle.when the sun comes up we run, our powers escape from our bodies and we turn back into our human form and just as the werewovles change so do the griffens.
The dark mist slowly made its crawl along the ground. I was hoping to that my new found powers would help save me. About three seconds and it would hit me. My only chance was to try to make a shield out of what little power i had left. Even though i was strongest against dark magic members i was so low from battling Dreth’s brother and his amazing talent for ice magic. i conjured up all my strength and with it i made a very weak shield of light to protect me. I couldn’t even think of my friends and family because all my focus was on my light shield. This was it the dark mist was about to hit my shield. Would it hold…?
