“Wait, what’s that?!” She exclaimed, looking straight ahead.
The other two turned their heads in response, and there it was. Bleached white, a wall stood but a hallway down their path. However, somehow this wall was not quite, they noticed unanimously. It was smoothed out at the bottom and top. And another thing:
It was moving.
But of course Leroy, being who he is, grins and proceeds quickly towards it. He stepped so harshly as he ran his bare feet tapped and echoed throughout the halls. Karei and Chris exchange looks of questioning, but curiosity, as curiosity does to children, had filled their mind and terminated intemperance thoughts, propelling them forward as well. They might as well have been children, new and bursting into the world. Chris admired how lightly she stepped; it was like visual and aural poetry at once.
It was not a long period of running before Leroy interrupted Chris’ sympathetic phase, “Guys, stop.”
They obeyed, skidding on their feet. “What?” Karei exhaled.
Leroy had his hands upon the wall before them, “It’s… hairy.” He gasped.
“What?” She repeated.
He lowered his voice to a whisper, “Long cat.”
“Long cat?”
“Look.” He commanded, pointing to his left at what looked like another two walls, each on top of each other, but shorter, and a very long ways away. “That,” He continued, “Is its arms.”
Chris touched his mouth, his jaw hanging. “It’s… it’s not-”
“Long cat is loooong.” She commented.
“Indeed. Come on, maybe we can climb this.” Leroy grabbed a tuft of its hair and began to lift himself.
Just as he did, it started to shake and make a rumbling noise. In fact, Chris could feel the ground moving. In all of the confusion, the magnificent body began to slowly rise. Karei spotted its head, its eyes huge, questioning and round. It reeled open its mouth and let out a horrific screeching noise that ringed through each of their mortal minds.
“Leroy, let go!” Karei screamed at him as he dangled and was rising along with the creature. Leroy’s mouth was moving, but could not be heard over the constant roaring of the building and Long cat. Her head turned to Chris, “The mask! Give me the mask!”
He fumbled in his pocket, shaking with fear (along with the ground). Eventually he found it and it re-inflated as he pulled it from his jeans. Karei stumbled as she ran towards him; the brick columns were trembling and crumbling as the monster began to step. Not helping, Leroy was screaming like hell. Ignoring him, its tremendous foot landed beside of her, throwing her into the air and deforming the ground beneath her.
“Karei!” Chris yelled, throwing his hand in her direction, but Long cat lowered his head to his level and repeated his hideous screech.
Despite her terrible blow, Karei properly landed on her feet with her arm steadying herself while touching the ground. She lifted her head and stood upward. Soon after, she spotted the mask, bouncing from Chris. Regardless of all the flowing emotions, there was only one thing whirling through her mind: That god darned fool, Leroy. God darn it. She sprinted at full speed, feeling as light as a feather. A large collection of bricks shattered on the floor to her left and caught her off guard. She stumbled back and fell to her side, skidding onto her back.
