Love Is Confusing - July 7, 2010 by bookbug15

He looks so perfect! thought Chanelle as she held her book in front of her pretending to read it.  Everlasting Love was her favorite book since she was 11, and now she can’t even focus on it because she cannot keep her eyes off of Gregory, her “future husband”.She was watching Gregory and her father, Fredrick, walk along the pond and as father was speaking, Gregory was chomping down on a freshly picked apple. Chanelle was sitting in the shade under a big oak tree in the yard, trying not to be seen. She was very curious to know of what her father and Gregory could ever be talking about, especially since she new very well that Gregory is the shy type and very intimidated by father.

“Chanelle, my dear, won’t you come hear for a moment?” She immediately stood up and walked quickly toward them, but not too fast, for she did not want to appear eager to see Gregory. As she walked along side the pond toward Gregory, she was picturing his beautiful face. How when he smiled, his sparkling blue eyes did too. She wanted to touch his soft, dark brown hair that was always combed up in the front. Suddenly she stopped in her footsteps, realizing that she was smiling and probably appeared as a fool to Gregory. But as she came closer, she figured out that he didn’t even notice. “Chanelle, dear, I need you to fetcch your sister, Melonie, for me and meet us with some sweet tea in the garden in 10 moments. No questions asked. Away now.”

Father was very stern, but usually did not hide things from my sister and I. Whatever could be going on? Does this have to do with Gregory and father speaking so secretively lately? As she approached the house, she saw Melonie in the kitchen. “Melonie, father wishes to speak to us in the garden in 10 minutes. Please, do help me make the sweet tea that he and Gregory requested I bring them?”

Melonie replied,” Of course I will. Wait, Gregory is here? He has been speaking to father a lot lately and I just happen to find it very suspicious. I do not know if it is good or not and that frightens me.” We finished making sweet tea and walked out to the garden. Gregory looked up, saw Melonie, and stood straight up and nervously, but ever so sweetly smiled.I had no idea as to what might happen.

“Melonie, as my eldest daughter, it is traditional that you are the first to get married. Your youth is fading quickly and I believe yoou are ready for marriage. Gregory has asked me for your hand in marriage and I told him that you will gladly except. He will become your husband in 3 months and 4 days, for that was your mother’s and my anniversary.

“Father, I will be quite joyful to marry on that day to a fine young man as Gregory. Shall I make a roast to celebrate?”

“Yes, of course, but first, I must make a toast hoping you live in a happy marriage. Cheers to you both and may you make the finest couple of the village.”

Melonie and I went in to make the roast. I was very upset with her. How could she accept marrying the one I have loved for months? Sure, I have not yet let her know my feelings for him, but I assumed it was obvious the way every time he walked by I smiled and struggled over every word when I spoke to him. I cannot go through with this marriage, but what can I do. I’ve got it! Melonie is the eldest and favorited daughter of my father. She gets whatever she pleases to have. So I need to make sure she pleases to have another man instead of Gregory. Then, I can easily get Gregory to fall in love with me. And, I know the perfect man to charm her.

Ilurin Chapter 6 Shadow and the Militia. - July 7, 2010 by Asia DeBoard
This entry is part 10 of 10 in the series Ilurin----chapter 1 And I fell

“Um……Can I get up now?” Mae asked with a bit of strain.

“Oh, sorry.” He said as he snapped back to reality after just staring at her for long moments. He helped Mae get up. “Almost forgot to introduce myself, my name is Kagshadono. But you can call me Shadow. This is the Wolf Meniva Militia; Ms. Kana, my right hand man, Kai, Little Alice, Mr. Hiro and Mrs. Amari, Grey, and Timber.”

“Shadow…..She doesn’t smell right…..are you positive it’s Mae?”The woman who Shadow had said was named Kana questioned.

“She stinks!” said Timber.

“She smells like smoke and snow.” Said Kai, brushing his white arctic like hair out of his blue eyes.

“Akooji Akithearis is yelling at you again, Kaitoano. Shall you raise the barrier?” Amari spoke her voice sounding indifferent and emotionless as she stared out in the distance.

“What’s he thinking?’ Kai questioned.

Amari coughed and motioned Kana over, she rested her hands upon Kana’s shoulder’s and Kana opened her mouth but instead of her voice coming out it was ‘Ji’s

I’ve got to get in there before…Before Shadow does anything to harm her…..

“Me? Do anything to Mae? How dare he…..Kai triple the barrier, Amari watch his thoughts, Hiro, Alice, stay hidden but stay close to him. Grey, Timber. You guys search the forest, see if The Bug somehow got in. I’ll take Mae back to the cave. Report back at Midnight.”

“Mr. Shadow……What did he mean by ‘does anything’ to me?”Mae croaked.

“First off Mae, Don’t add the mister, we’re friends. Second, don’t worry about him. He’s an idiot.”

“Shadow…”Mae looked down.

A cloud of smoke appeared and instead of the boy being there was a black wolf.

Mae, once again, stared in astonishment.

Mae heard Amari’s voice, but her lips were not moving. Do not fear Amaenatia. Kagshadono shall not harm you. Get on his back. Mae did so. Do not worry about Akooji Akithearis. We will not allow him to harass you again. His thoughts are vile and, quiet frankly embarrassing. Now, tell Kagshadono that you are ready. Hold on tight to his neck.

Mae did she was told and Shadow took off. He was far faster than any horse Mae had ever rode. She clutched to his fur and began to smile, she was having the time of her life! Her long Scarlett hair whipped behind her.  The canine ran at a lightning speed Mae barely kept her grip.  They zoomed past dozens of trees and the two finally came to a stop in front of a mossy hill. Shadow laid down and Mae got off of him, Another cloud of black smoke appeared. The more human figure of Shadow appeared. He clenched his fist and shut his eyes in concentration, his fist seemed to turn to stone, black marble, or maybe hematite.

He stuck the hill with his rock-fist and the ivy growing on the rock fell revealing a hidden cave.

Moon - July 7, 2010 by cacarrier

The moon glows silver in the inky dark

Its aura is beutiful, yet deadly

For if you chase the moon, you waste

The silent moon shows its face

The moon is

Mysterious as the dark side of the moon

Athena ~ Chapter Two: Who Let the Monsters in? Who? Who? - July 7, 2010 by raqshan
This entry is part 3 of 9 in the series Athena and the Benders

stormy sea

Chapter Two: Who let the Monsters in? Who? Who?

Annabeth threw open the closet doors. Inside were dresses upon dresses.  I gulped. You see, I have only worn a dress once or twice in my life. I prefer jeans and a T-shirt.

Annabeth pulled out a bright red dress with the light image of flames. I immediately knew that was one dress I would never be caught wearing. I hated fire.

Annabeth seemed to notice my discomfort. “No,” she said, as if she were a fashion director,” This won’t do.”

Next she pulled out a blue-green dress. The color was perfect and when I tried it on it fit me.

After we found a dress, Annabeth pulled me to a large make-up desk. In the big mirror I could see Annabeth comb out my waist-length black hair and pinned my a few locks of my hair back with a green rhinestone studded pin. Then, she handed my some sand dollar earrings  and a sea shell bracelet to put on.

“There!” Annabeth cried, pleased with her work.

I looked at my self in the mirror. “I look like a piece of the sea floor,” I said good natured. To tell you the truth, I actually liked it. The blue-green dress made a good combination with my eyes (which were also blue-green) and my long black hair. I smiled at Annabeth. She said she’d be back in a minute and then was gone.

I looked around the room. I was going to sit on the bed when a picture frame caught my eye. The picture was of four little kids. One with golden-brown hair and dark brown eyes. The second kid was a nice looking boy with smooth blonde hair and light blue eyes. The third little girl was a pale girl with scarlet red hair and eyes as black as coals. The fourth little kid was…me. At least she had the same hair and eyes as me.

I had to stop looking at the picture when Annabeth, came back into the room. She was wearing a green dress that had the faint out images of leaves on it. It looked great on her. Annabeth lead me down the hall and it was only then did I wonder who’s room it had been.

“Annabeth.”

“Yes.”

“Who was in that picture on the table?” I asked.

She smiled,” That was me, Tancred, Nelly, and you.”

“Me?” I asked, ” Why don’t I remember taking the picture?”

“It’s a long story, but all you really need to know for now is that, your memory wiped out. You won’t be able to remember anything of your past,” Annabeth said,” On that happy note, here is the banquet hall!”

I turned toward a stair case and saw a large banner hanging from the ceiling. It read; Welcome Back, Athena!!” Balloons were tied to the tables and seats and large dishes of food were set on the table. I gaped. I had never had a party this grand.

Annabeth prodded me in the back with her fingers and I slowly walked down the stairs. That’s when I noticed the people. There were at least forty people in that room. Women and Men. Teens and toddlers. Small infants and old people. I didn’t know if I could remember all these people!

Out of the crowd a man with pale yellow hair stepped from the crowd. He wore a Island of the Bahama’s T-shirt with  pictures coconuts and seagulls all over it and a pair of denim blue shorts. He looked like your average guy, except he radiated power.

“Athena!” the man said in a kind voice,” I believe you do not remember me? I am Charlie Furio, but to you I am, well, Dad.”

I stared at him. The man had said everything in a rush as if he was afraid I would stop him. Dad? I had never had a dad. Hestia had always told me that he had to leave on an important errand and never came back.

“Hi?” I tried. The WHOLE crowd of people burst out laughing. Suddenly the boy Tancred and a red headed girl came up and stood next to Charlie. Tancred grinned at me and the other looked at me with amused contempt.

“Athena, this is Nelly and Tancred and you already know Annabeth,” Charlie introduced the two,” The are your, close friends.”

I looked at him incredulously. “Friends?” I asked,” How do I know them, exactly?”

“Through me,” he explained,” You see, their moms are different, but I am their father.” I was confused, but then I grasped his meaning.

Just then Hestia came up to Charlie and whispered in his ear. Charlie nodded and said,” Before we celebrate, I think we should tell Athena why she is here after spending her life in the mortal world.” He turned and sat at the table.

“You see Athena, the people here are all rebels. There are more at the camp, but for now, these are that could make it here. We fight to over throw King Suntan. He rules over our world and is destroying it.”

I interrupted,” I thought the world was ruled by presidents and prime ministers.”

“Yes, that’s in the mortal world.”

“You say it like you aren’t mortal,” I said.

“You’re right. We are not.” Charlie said,” You and me and everyone here, cannot died by age, only by swords made by our immortal blacksmiths. Now, where was I? Ah, yes, we rebel against the king and seek to put a new successor on the throne. I am one of the Rebel’s most powerful weapon. I can bend water, fire, earth, air, and electricity. Annabeth can bend earth and Tancred electricity. Nelly uses fire. You are undetermined. When we find your talent we will make you a symbol of power like all benders have.”

I stared at him. I thought he was playing some sort of joke on me, because, I couldn’t bend a thing and I was sure I was mortal.

Suddenly, music started playing.

“Party time!” Charlie cried.
