Are they like me? - July 10, 2010 by Asia DeBoard

Are they like me?

I stared out at the Pacific. My mahogany eyes focusing in and out.  I was thinking. I was always thinking.

I know what’s on the other side. What I want to know though…Is who? I have always felt lone. Alone and out of place….

Would this person be like me? Would they be shy, smart, and confused. Were they looking out to the ocean? I feel them there. I know them. But I don’t. I know they’re there. But who are they? Is it a boy or a girl? Do they believe in fate? Do they draw crosses in their notebooks when they have writer’s block? Do they want a place in the world? Do they dream of a place that doesn’t exist? Do they cry sometimes and not know why? Are they lactose intolerant?  Do they prefer fruit to candy? Do they stay up late into the night and sleep until noon? Do they want to never awake, even when it’s a nightmare?Do they love scary stories and laugh when everyone else screams? Do they love zombie movies? Are they broken? Are they lost? Are they searching for someone else who will except them?

Are they like me?

The Most Wondrous Thing - July 10, 2010 by cacarrier

I’m seen a million waves crash

I’ve felt more grains of sand

But the most wondrous thing on Earth

Can’t be held in a hand

For the treasure all seek

Yet not all find

Is love, pure love

Any love of any kind.

Athena ~ Chapter Three (Continued) - July 10, 2010 by raqshan
This entry is part 6 of 9 in the series Athena and the Benders

Chapter Three: I Meet an Immortal Blacksmith

stormy sea

“M-my sister?” I choked. Suddenly the whole day seemed so over whelming and I had so many questions that my head started to swim.

“Tancred,” Charlie called,” Get her some Honey Sip.”

I heard Tancred leave the room, but I had so many more questions that; “What the heck is Honey Sip?”, was lost in the mass of questions.

“Athena, calm down,” Charlie soothed.

“I can’t,” I exploded,” Everyone I have met so far seems to know me and I have no clue who they are! I was taken from my house without any idea why and brought to that hotel! I am hallucinating bull men and bat..bat things. I have no idea what the HECK Honey Sip is and…and…”

“Athena,” the second, man that sat next to my father spoke for the first time,” I understand how you feel.”

I calmed down a little. Tancred came back inside and crouched next to my chair,” Here, this is Honey Sip. Dirk it until your head feels better.”

I took the glass and put the straw to my mouth and took a sip. I almost dropped the glass when I tasted it. It tasted like grapes and apples. Cookies and sugary treats. Ribs and chicken. Vegetables. And all sorts of things that shouldn’t have gone good together, but did. And behind it all was the faint flavor of honey. All that in one sip. I drained the glass. I know it was rude, but I hadn’t realized how thirsty I was until I had dark that glass of..what did he call it?……..Honey Sip.

I opened my eyes, which I hadn’t realized I had closed.

“Better?” Charlie asked.

I gave him a smile. Tancred gingerly to my glass and set it on the table, then  pulled a chair up to the table next to me.

“Now as I was saying,” Charlie continued,” Julie, she was my daughter like you, except I knew that she didn’t have the power to bend the elements. When I told her, she became horribly depressed. Never wanted to do sword practice or play with the wolves. She resented you for being able to bend, because, I guess she thought it wasn’t fair since she was older.”

“Wait,” I interrupted,” What about Aphrodite? Is she your daughter too?”

“No,” Charlie explained,” Your mother was married to another man named, Jonathan Ogling, and Aphrodite was their daughter. But, Jonathan died in a freak car accident. Then, Hestia and I met. We got married and had Julie, then you.”

I nodded. Aphrodite had always avoided talk about “father” and she didn’t look anything like me. Her hair was strawberry blonde and she had hazel colored eyes.

“As I was saying,” Charlie continued,” Julie was jealous of you. One day Julie was watching you and Tancred sparring and Holanda, our camp magician saw her. She talked to me. Said that she sensed that Julie had a thing for magic. She took her on as an apprentice. Two years pasted. You turned nine and she turned twelve. One day you were taking a tour of the woods. We put you in pairs. I made a bad mistake of pairing you up with her. I thought she would get used to being with you again.”

Charlie shook his head,” We found you later, on the ground. Julie had washed your our memories. She had left you there. We still don’t know where she went..although, we have our suspicions.”

I didn’t want to believe it, but I could see that Charlie was telling the truth. To take my mind off what he had just told me I stared out of the a large window. Annabeth was standing on a bare patch of ground with her eys closed. Suddenly a large rock lifted off the ground she opened her eys. She lrust her hands forward and the rock catapalted towards Nelly. The girl doged the boulder with incredible speed and the moment she was up she shot a ball of FIRE at Annabeth.

“Wow!”I cried,” Aren’t they gonna hurt each other?”

“They might,” Tancred said, looking at the fight,” But, they often parctice their talent.”

“And do you?” I asked,” Do you bend electricity?”

“Yes,”Tancred replied as if that cleared it up.

I turned and Charlie cried,” Where are my manners?” He gestured towards the man next to him,” This Duncan, our Immortal Blacksmith.”

“You’ve got an Immortal Blacksmith?” I asked.

“Sure,” Charlie shrugged,” We need someone to make swords.”

“No offence to you,” I told Ducun,” But do you have to be immortal?”

“Yes,” Ducun said,” Only I know how to make swords that can kill immortals. Guns and swords made by mortals can’t harm us. The king somehow has the same kind of swords. So it’s even.”

Charlie dug his hand into his pocket and pulled out the bottle of mascara that I had left at the hotel,” Don’t ever let your sword out of your sight. Guvan Mara will save your life more than once, take my word for it.”

Just then the door opened and my mom came into the room. “Charlie, Athena’s bending course is ready.”

Charlie smiled,” Good, Hestia! Come on Athena, let’s see what element obeys your command.”
