Sorry about not publishing Athena for a while. If you’ve read all of the other parts then, what are you reading this for? Go ahead and skip to the story. But if you haven’t read the other parts, then you should go back and read them so you know what the heck is going on in here.
Chapter Five: Hawk Gives Me Clues to His Powers
“Help me, someone!” he seeemed to be crying desperatly.
“Wait,” I yelled through the sound of the wipping wind,” I’m coming!”
“No!”
I woke up. It always happened that way, you know. I get to the part that is most important and then something wakes me up. I looked around the cabin. Last night, Annabeth had showed me to this bed and told me to wake up up at 8:30 for breakfast. I glanced at the large clock that hung over the closed cabin door. The small hand pointed to 8 and the long hand pointed to the 12. 8:12. I had 18 minutes to get ready.
I yawned and streched. It was only then that I noticed the golden lump that lay half buried in my side. Dispite myself, I smiled. I had never had a pet, see. Aphrodite was alergic to fur. The only animal I had ever had in my house was a fishbowl with five small goldfish. They were pretty and all, but goldfish can’t exactly play with you or snuggle up in your lap. Besides, they all jumped out of their bowl four days after we got them ’cause for some unknown reason the water had started to churn.
So as I was saying, the puppy was asleep when a name for him popped up in my mind. Hawk, I thought, I will name him Hawk.
Just as I was about to drift back to sleep, the cabin door was flung open and a girl’s voice called,” Rise and shine, Element Heads! The day is begining!” The girl had a British acent and her thick blonde hair was coloected into a ponytail.
“Oh, Laura!” Nelly moaned,” It isn’t even 8:20 yet!”
“Well,” Laura taunted,” Aren’t you sleepy today!”
“Nelly always sleepy!” Tancred joked,” I’m surpriesed she doesn’t fall asleep during sword practice!” Nelly threw a feather pillow in his face.
Sword practice!?, I thought wildly. Then, I felt the small bottle of mascara that I had safely tucked into the pocket of the nightgown I had found on my bed.
“Athena!” Annabeth called from above me,” Get up, it’s your first full day at camp!”
“Yippe. Hooray.” Nelly called sarcasticly from her bunk,” Athena’s come to stay!”
“Oh, Nelly, stop being such a meanie!” the blonde girl teased. She walked over to my bed and I got up. “Hi, I’m Laura,” she introduced herself.
“Hi,” I said, shaking her out-streached hand,” I am Athena.”
“Nice to meet you, Athena!” Laura smiled,” I am your sword practice supervisor. You and your friends will be sword practicing with me after breakfast.”
She turned and to leave.” And, Athena,” she called,”Bring your sword and sheild with you!”
She exited the cabin and walked towards the mess hall.
“Ohhhhh, that is a really cute dog,” Annabeth cued. She was neeling next to me bed and stroking the dog. His long golden fur glinted in the sun light that poured from the open door. Annabeth’s fox was sniffling and nuzzling the puppy as a mother dog would her own pup.
“I think Grove’s motherly insticts are takeing over,” Tancred grinned. His Snow White Owl was perched on his shoulder. The tips of his wings and Tancred’s spiky blonde hair were both sparking with electricity.
Nelly snorted and said hotily,” Why such a normal animal. Aren’t you unique enough?”
I understood what she meant and my blood boiled with rage.
“Maybe your afraid that my normal water will put out everyone of your amazing fireballs?” I shot back.
Nelly frowned at me. Then she turned on her toes and stomped out. Her cyotea followed close behind.
“Don’t mind, Nelly,” Tancred yawned,” She’s always snooty with new-camers. Believe me, I had to go through it.”
He jumped out of bed and went over to the large dresser that had five seperate draws in it. The top one had a lable that read; Henry.
“Who’s Henry?” I asked. I noticed that the next one said; Nelly. The other three read Tancred, Annabeth and Athena.
“Henry was- is- one of us. He was Speeker of sky,” Annabeth explained sadly.
“What happened to him?” I asked.
“We’ll tell you later,” Tancred called cheerfully,” Right now, you need to change.” He pointed to the bottom drawer. I walked over to the dresser and pulled my drawer open. Inside were new clothes all folded nice and neatly.
“Take your clothes to the bathroom and change there,” Annabeth told me. I looked at the clothes and chose a sea-green tanktop and dark blue skinny jeans.
I got up and the dog came up to me and wagged its tail. Dog. Why do I keep calling it dog?
“Come here, Hawk,” I called to the golden dog. He padded to the door next to me.
“Hawk? Is that his name?” Tancred asked and, together we walked to the bathrooms.
“Yes,” I said,” Do you like it?”
“Sure! It fits him.”
We reached the bathroom and split our seperate ways.
